Courage as a weight-loss wonder cure
A graphic designer was desperately looking for a job. He had just relocated to the city and was in a right old panic about paying his living expenses.
A creative was caught in a corporate job that made him feel trapped, because it did not allow his natural creativity to shine.
A woman spoke of her husband who she no longer had a relationship with. She had been tolerating his presence and destructive behaviour with that age-old motivation: for the sake of the children.
In my numerous conversations with these three individuals, two themes emerged: one, each of them essentially knew their own hearts and minds, but denied their essential truths; and two, even if they would acknowledge their truth, they needed courage to answer its call.
The graphic designer wanted to go back whence he came. The creative wanted to leave corporate and create his own business. The woman wanted a happier future than what her past had been. Acknowledging this, was half their battle won.
Then, this happened:
The designer started looking for work, as opposed to a job, and is busy funding his return while building a magnificent portfolio. The work seems to be rolling in effortlessly. He will undoubtedly be able to afford his relocation.
The creative is busy setting up a business plan. He found the option of outside funding and is living his creative self already through designing products and defining potential processes and partners. He will undoubtedly resign from his job soon without having a ‘back-up’.
The woman told her husband that their marriage must end, for all their sakes. She appointed a lawyer and found a great therapist to help support her and her children. She drew up a budget and now has a plan.
My observation about these three individuals is how utterly light they look after showing courage, taking the life-changing, far-reaching decision and following through. The calm and lightness are perfectly balanced with the optimism they feel for a better future and the excitement others feel on their behalf. They all experienced (and continue to experience) immense personal power.
All three individuals are planning their future and I believe their future will be better than their past, because they showed courage and acted. Besides, they go into that future much lighter than they left their past – they will now see opportunities they never saw before; they will attract positive things and they will now solve challenges they would have feared in the past.
They showed courage – action despite fear, not action devoid of it.
Don’t let fear stop you from living you best life. Have courage. It will give you the lightness you need to adapt, grow and thrive.
